Materials Analyst (TGA, XRF)

Support and accelerate ink innovations by delivering outstanding analyses and measurements

Your role as Materials Analyst

By developing innovative inks we are changing the world of printing, and your expertise is needed to successfully deliver these new inks to our (potential) customers. Your entrepreneurial mindset combined with your creativity and strong analytical skills enables you to successfully identify, acquire and develop knowledge on (physico)chemical analysis, and implement solutions towards projects. In addition, we expect you to pro-actively contribute to further expansion of our material knowledge of various inks and raw materials.

As an analytical expert, you will become the main responsible for thermo-gravimetrical analysis (TGA) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) in the cluster. In order to optimally support teams in product development (R&D) on issues related to the analysis of new raw materials or inks, we count on you to develop the required measurement methods, to manage your analytical infrastructure and to perform the necessary research to keep our TGA and XRF capabilities on state-of-the-art level. In addition to research activities aimed at knowledge buildup, you will also perform (standard) measurements that are required to solve research questions of our customers.

Depending on your background and interests, you will also be enabled to contribute to other analytical techniques and organizational responsibilities.

To be successful in this role you develop in-depth expertise in methods, analyses and processes, including being up to date with the latest developments in your areas of expertise. Next to this you have a good understanding of what is going on in the different teams and you are able to challenge teams to deliver the best solution possible. This position is based in Venlo, the Netherlands.

Department

Part of our Research & Development organization, the department Analysis & Measurements (± 35 employees) contributes to product developments and research subjects from an expertise point of view. The department houses several specialist measurement techniques, develops and ensures sufficient knowledge on crucial subjects related to printing technologies and maintains relations with external (research) partners. Within this department you are part of the Chemical Analysis team.

Who are we looking for?

You bring along a passion for (physico)chemical analysis combined with an entrepreneurial attitude and creativity. You possess strong analytical skills, initiative and an eagerness to deliver inventive solutions. You have a strong drive to tackle analytical challenges and improve the available working methods of today related to inks and ink components.

Furthermore you meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum requirement is a Bachelor degree in (Analytical) Chemistry, Materials Science, or similar.
  • You have a proven affinity for analyses and measurements.
  • Thorough knowledge of and experience with TGA is required. Experience with IR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and/or hyphenated TGA-IR or TGA-MS is a plus.
  • Proven knowledge of and experience with XRF, or the willingness and ability to achieve those quickly, is required. Experience with other elemental analysis methods (ICP-OES, ICP-MS, EDX) is a plus.
  • Research experience with dispersed systems (e.g., polymer latices, pigment dispersions) is a plus.
  • You speak up and display your initiative and creativity. You show strong organizing and decision making skills and act pragmatically with a hands-on approach.
  • Excellent communication skills in English – verbal and written. Profound knowledge of Dutch is a plus.
  • Reside in the Netherlands or nearby Venlo.
